Call to Action: Carleton Lifeline

With the recent arrest of anti-abortion protesters at Carleton University in Ottawa, and the obvious denial of free speech, I couldn’t help but take up Carleton Lifeline’s request to write a letter to the university’s president and vice-chancellor, Roseann O’Reilly Runte. Here is what I wrote:

To: Dr. Roseann O’Reilly Runte,

I am appalled at the squelching of free speech at Carleton University. My hope is that you, whether you agree with Carleton Life Line’s views on abortion or not, will give them the freedom to express their views that, as Canadians, they have a right to do. Take a stand for freedom. Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn famously cried, “We don’t love freedom enough.” Please, love freedom.

Sincerely,

Ian Clary

Likewise, O reader, if you are for or against abortion, I hope that you can see the censorship that lies behind this issue and will express your upset to Dr. O’Reilly Runte. This is Canada, not the USSR, comrades.
