Last night Vicky and I stayed in and rented a movie. We were both feeling a little low, having found out that she won’t be able to keep the job she’s been doing at Toronto General Hospital. She had hopes of staying there long-term after the maternity leave she was covering was over. The lady she is filling in for returns on March 19. After that, Vicky is out of work.
So we decided to rent a movie that would lift our spirits and settled on Facing the Giants. What an excellent movie! If you liked Invincible or Remember the Titans, you would definitely like Facing the Giants. All of them are football movies with very uplifting themes. Facing the Giants though is different, it is an explicitly evangelical movie with a very gospel centred storyline. And what was great is that it wasn’t cheezy like so many Christian movies are. It was well-directed, well-acted, well-produced and well-filmed. I was very satisfied with the movie overall, although I admit it was a bit predictable.
If you want to watch a movie that deals with the realities of life’s struggles and the power of God to see His people through, get this one. It was a great encouragement for Vicky and I to remember that even during the trials, we are to keep our eyes on the Lord who will see us through.
